If you have it is important to note that your cancer is not just concentrated in one area. The lungs… The lungs may be the targeted area right now but cancer of many stripes can spread.

Lung cancer in particular is prone to spreading. What this is really is akin to a fresh green flower garden. The weeds will begin to come into your garden unless and until you do something to kick them out. In medical terms mediastinoscopy is one procedure that can determine if your cancer is spreading or not into the lymph node areas. We’ll look at both outcomes below.

If your cancer is found to be spreading to the lymph node area you’ll likely have found this out after being put to sleep and having tiny little tissue samples taken from the region at present. They are examined under a microscope to ascertain whether you have anything to fret about.

If you do have a spreading cancer at this point you may have to choose along with your oncologist’s recommendation between:
1. surgery
2. chemotherapy
3. radiation therapy
4. photodynamic therapy
5. a combination of all of the above and more…

If the surgery can be of help to you - you should take it. This will likely be administered along with chemo and radiation treatments. Why? This has been found to be the most effective at killing off the diseased cancerous cells and trying to give your body a fighting chance to regain momentum and health by replenishing itself with healthier cells.

You may get a lobectomy, phneumonectomy, segmental or wedge section done. All of these are surgeries involving removal of the diseased sections first.

Chemotherapy uses a battery of anticancer drugs to eradicate the cancerous cells in your body. Unfortunately, the drugs are not able to work or select just the cancerous cells. What results is a total depletion of all of your good cells along with the bad cells. Chemo has been found to be highly effective at killing the cells but as stated above it also kills your good cells too.

On the other hand radiation treatments use an intense energy ray to shrink and destroy the cancerous cells. This may result in relief of some of the symptoms but nothing is a surefire cure all. Take the time to learn from your oncologist so that you can get the most from this outstanding treatment and their superior knowledge. Treating your lung cancer lymph nodes is important. Especially if you have lung cancer.
