Let�s Have A Look At The Pathophysiology Of Lung Cancer

There are four major types of lung cancer adenocarcinoma, squamous cell, small cell, and large cell. Let�s have a look at the pathophysiology of lung cancer. Adenocarcinoma, squamous cell, and large cell all respond similarly to treatment.

The pathophsyiology of lung cancer differs with the different types of lung cancer. Small cell lung cancer responds well to radiation and chemotherapy, which makes treatment much different. Malignant tumors occur usually because of repetitive carcinogenic stimuli, irritation, and inflammation. The most vulnerable is the mucosal lining. Normal mucosal cells change slowly into malignant cells which a complex process.

The pathophysiology of lung cancer pertaining to squamous cell carcinoma, also known as epidermoid carcinoma is the second most common bronchogenic carcinoma and it is commonly associated with smoking. It starts in the bronchial lining within the segmental bronchi therefore, it is a periphilar tumor.

The pathophysiology of lung cancer pertaining to Adenocarcinoma is the most common type of lung cancer. Adeno means gland and describes glandular tissue and arises from the mucous glandson the tracheobronchial tree. It is commonly found in the lung�s periphery. The four subtypes of this caner are papillary, acinar, bronchoalveolar, and solid with mucous. This type of cancer will metastasize to vascular and nervous systems.

The pathophysiology of lung cancer in relationship to large cell lung cancer is a tumor that is a collection of poorly formed cells but they don�t resemble other histology types such as skin glands.

The pathophysiology of lung cancer in relationship to small cell lung cancer which arises from the K type cells in the bronchial epithelium and has four subtypes � intermediate cell, oat cell, mixed cell, and undifferentiated.
