Is There A Cure For Lung CancerThe number one cause of lung cancer is smoking followed by exposure to asbestos. So is there a cure for lung cancer you ask? There is no one cure but there are several treatments that can result in a cure. It would be nice if the cure for lung cancer was cut and dry but it is not. The treatment will depend on many factors including where on the lung the cancer is, the type of cancer, your overall health, the results of blood tests, and whether the cancer has spread. Don’t be surprised if you find others are having a different treatment than you. The end result is the same – the goal is a cure for lung cancer. The different treatments can be for many reasons including those mentioned already. What is the cure for lung cancer you ask? The treatment for small cell lung cancer is different than that for non-small cell cancer. Small cell lung cancer is usually treated with chemotherapy. Surgery is seldom used because in most cases this type of lung cancer has spread. Radiation may also be used. Non-small cell lung cancer is often treated with surgery and chemotherapy or radiation. The cure for lung cancer also varies by stage. Here is a quick outline for treatment of each stage of small cell lung cancer. 1. Stage 0 is rare because it would mean diagnosis was at a very early stage. If this should happen the cure for lung cancer lies in surgery. 2. Stage 1 is also uncommon but if diagnosed this early then surgery is the most common treatment. 3. Stage 2 is more common and the cure for lung cancer of this stage will often include a lobectomy and chemotherapy. 4. Stage 3 may require removal of the whole lung if it has spread into the middle of the chest. 5. Stage 4 is sadly beyond a cure for lung cancer in almost all cases. Chemotherapy may be used to slow the growth and radiation to control the pain. Surgery is no longer an option as almost always the cancer has spread to another organ. Is there a cure for lung cancer?
